RM of Kingsley’s story
The Rural Municipality of Kingsley No. 124 incorporated on December 12, 1910, in the southeast part of the province. Its office is in Kipling, the town the municipality surrounds, and the communities of Bender, Inchkeith and Neelby lie within its boundaries.
Several early buildings and monuments recall the people who settled here. Poplar Grove United Church, built of field stone in 1902 southeast of Broadview, has nine stained-glass windows, and its cemetery goes back to 1887. Regular services were held there until 1970, and today it is used for public events and the occasional special service.
Swedish immigrants built the Highland Baptist Church, once called the Swedish Baptist Church, north of Kipling in 1924. Services were held there until 1970, and it still opens for special occasions. Zion Lutheran Church, a country church north of Windthorst, was built in 1926.
Near Windthorst, the Coronation Community Cairn was raised in 1978 to honour the early pioneers who built the one-room Coronation School in 1913.
